Born from the rugged, limestone-rich hills of the Adelaida District in Paso Robles, the 2021 Thacher “Original Copy” Red Blend is a compelling expression of one of California’s most dynamic wine-growing regions. Thacher Winery has earned a reputation for crafting site-driven wines that embrace both the power and nuance of Paso Robles, allowing vineyard character to take center stage.
Nestled among the region’s western mountain ranges, the Adelaida District benefits from elevated terrain, calcareous soils, and cooling Pacific influences that create wines of remarkable concentration, freshness, and complexity. These unique growing conditions produce fruit with both richness and structure while preserving the vibrant acidity that defines the area’s finest wines.
Inspired by the great blends of Bordeaux, Original Copy is crafted from 54% Cabernet Franc, 22% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot, and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon. Guided by a minimal-intervention philosophy, the wine is produced through careful vineyard selection, native fermentations, and thoughtful oak aging, allowing the personality of both vineyard and vintage to shine through.
In the glass, the wine reveals a deep ruby hue and an expressive aromatic profile of violet, licorice, and ripe purple fruit. Layers of blackberry, plum, and dark cherry unfold across a richly textured palate, accented by notes of baking spice, dried herbs, and cedar. Refined tannins and vibrant acidity provide balance and structure, carrying through to a long, polished finish that lingers with elegance and complexity.
A wine of depth, character, and Paso Robles authenticity, the 2021 Thacher “Original Copy” Red Blend captures the spirit of the Adelaida District—bold yet refined, approachable today, and worthy of continued evolution in the cellar.
