Crafted from vines planted in the 1890s, the 2023 Evangelho Heritage Red is a celebration of California’s old-vine legacy. Grown in deep, sandy soils near the Sacramento River Delta, this practicing organic vineyard delivers a wine that is both powerful and graceful.
The blend, dominated by Zinfandel and Mourvèdre, with touches of Carignan, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir, Palomino, and Clairette Blanche; opens with lush aromas of ripe blackberries, black cherries, and blood orange. A swirl of sage, mint, and black pepper adds intrigue, while notes of lavender, violet, and Italian plum lift the profile.

This heritage vineyard yields a wine brimming with ripe blackberries, black cherries, blood orange, and floral notes of lavender and violet. Undertones of cracked pepper, mint, and savory spice add complexity. The palate is full-bodied yet balanced, with fine-grained tannins and a long, energetic finish laced with anise, raspberry, and spice.
